About CQC and the National Guardian’s Office

CQC is the independent regulator of health and social care in England. We make sure health and social care services provide people with safe, effective, compassionate, high-quality care and we encourage care services to improve. We monitor, inspect and regulate services to ensure they meet fundamental standards of quality and safety and we publish what we find to help people choose care.

The National Guardian’s Office is funded by CQC, NHS England and NHS Improvement.  It is a small, functionally independent office that supports the National Guardian.  It is responsible for supporting a national network of Freedom to Speak Up Guardians, challenging and supporting the healthcare system to improve speaking up, and carrying out case reviews.

About the Role

Sir Robert Francis’ report ‘Freedom to Speak Up’ was published in February 2015 and included a recommendation for the appointment of a National Independent Officer (National Guardian), who can provide leadership to influence the creation of an environment for all NHS staff to speak up safely. The National Guardian (Dr Henrietta Hughes) took up office in October 2016.

The National Guardian has established a network of locally appointed Freedom to Speak Up Guardians (FTSUG) and supports them through establishing common standards in the role, sharing good practice and providing training and development opportunities.

The office is looking to appoint a Correspondence Officer to lead the Office’s correspondence activity supporting the National Guardian and Head of Office in providing timely and high quality responses to correspondence.

The successful candidate will take ownership of the processes to develop, oversee and maintain the NGO’s systems of monitoring, tracking and chasing the completion of agreed actions and responses arising from correspondence.

About You

Educated to degree level or equivalent, you should have experience of handling and managing highly sensitive correspondence on behalf of senior managers, or of developing and applying correspondence handling processes.

You should have excellent organisational skills and be proficient in working under pressure to manage competing priorities and meet strict deadlines.

You will be able to demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with colleagues and senior stakeholders.

We are also looking for the post holder to be competent in the use of Microsoft Office and databases. You will have the ability to follow processes accurately with excellent attention to detail, and to identify trends and themes emerging for correspondence and to instigate appropriate action in response to them.

For further information about the role please see the job description attached.

This role is full-time and based at the CQC’s offices at 151 Buckingham Palace Road, London, SW1W 9SZ.

Closing Date – Sunday 22nd July 2018 at 11:45pm
